You don't have to deserve help — you just have to ask
PTSD shows up differently for everyone. Sleep that won't come. Anger that arrives out of nowhere. Avoiding places, conversations, anniversaries. Feeling like the world is constantly about to go wrong.
If any of this sounds familiar, you're not weak. You're carrying something heavy, and there is help.
Op COURAGE — the NHS veterans' mental health service
Op COURAGE (operations.nhs.uk/courage) is the dedicated NHS mental health service for serving leavers, reservists, veterans, and their families. It's free, confidential, and you can self-refer — you don't need a GP letter.
It covers everything from first conversations through to trauma-focused therapy and inpatient care.
What therapy looks like
Most veterans benefit from trauma-focused CBT or EMDR. Sessions usually run weekly for 12–16 weeks. The work isn't about reliving things — it's about teaching your nervous system that the danger is in the past.
