Resettlement grants and training funding

What you can claim through CTP, ELC, and Standard Learning Credits — and when to use which.

The three main pots

  • Career Transition Partnership (CTP) — full resettlement service for service leavers, including workshops, 1:1 coaching, and access to the Right Job employer board.
  • Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) — up to £2,000/year for higher-level qualifications, usable for up to 10 years after leaving.
  • Standard Learning Credits (SLC) — up to £175/year for shorter or lower-level training, available during service.

Choosing what to use, when

If you're still in service, use SLC for the small stuff and save ELC for the big qualification you want to do after leaving. If you've recently left, register with CTP immediately — your access window is time-limited.

Common mistakes

  • Letting ELC expire because nobody told you the 10-year window started ticking the day you left.
  • Using a non-approved provider — only ELC-approved providers can be funded.
  • Forgetting to declare prior funding — applications get rejected for incomplete declarations.
