If you have nowhere to sleep tonight
Call the council you're in — every council has a duty to provide emergency housing assessment. Outside office hours, call their out-of-hours number. If you have nowhere safe at all, call us on 0207 382 2982 or contact SSAFA's Forcesline on 0800 731 4880.
For rough sleeping in England, StreetLink (streetlink.org.uk) connects you with local outreach teams.
Your rights under the Homelessness Reduction Act
If you're at risk of losing your home within 56 days, the council must help you. As a veteran, you may have additional priority and won't need to demonstrate local connection.
What to bring to the council
- Some form of ID (passport, driving licence)
- Discharge papers if available
- Any letters about losing your accommodation
- A list of medications and GP details
If you don't have these, go anyway. Don't let missing paperwork stop you.
